Gold Healthy Workplace Awards - Gold Award Recipient
Trinity Village

Trinity Village Care Centre has devoted considerable time and resources to improving and expanding their Community Garden. Their Community Garden offers staff, residents, and families residing outside of the Village a variety of opportunities to better their physical health, give to others, and improve upon their overall sense of well-being.
Staff, residents, and families residing outside of Trinity Village, can reserve a garden plot and grow their own food or flowers. Breathing in the fresh air, digging up weeds, watering, and cleaning away debris around a personal garden plot is great exercise and, of course, on a good day, a great source of Vitamin D.
As part of a partnership with St. Matthews church, Trinity Village provides food to the Out-of-the Heat/Out-of-the-Cold program from two dedicated plots.
In keeping with the Trinity Village commitment to reduce their carbon footprint, both their long term care centre and retirement home have plots to grow food for their residents. This prevents the need for transportation to deliver food, decreasing the pollutants in the environment. In addition, rain barrels around the garden site collect water, and organic waste is recycled or composted for future use.
For staff, residents, or families who many not want a garden plot, there are still opportunities for them to enjoy the benefits of visiting this fully-accessible community garden. Starting with a spring clean-up and BBQ, volunteers are encouraged to drop in and help in any way they are comfortable. The variety of tasks associated with maintaining the garden is numerous and all help is welcome.
Trinity Village encourages staff, residents, or families to visit their Community Garden and recognizes that those who support the garden also help to support their mission to provide “A caring community which values and fosters the worth and lifestyle of all.”
