What Local Workplaces told Project Health: Results of the Online Needs Assessment Highlight Report

About the Survey:
In September 2010, Project Health asked workplace intermediates what their workplaces have done, aim to do and assistance they require for developing supportive work environments and policies related to workplace wellness. Project Health emailed the survey to 329 workplaces and received 119 responses, resulting in a thirty-six per cent (36%) response rate.
What you told us about usage of our services:
A high level of use of Project Health services was indicated by workplace intermediaries such as visiting the Project Health website, attending networking sessions and receiving one-on-one consultation support from Project Health.
What you told us about the types of health promotion wellness strategies you implement:
Survey responses demonstrated that workplace wellness was supported in various ways by the majority of workplaces represented in the survey. Currently many workplace intermediaries place more emphasis on awareness raising and skill building than building supportive environments and policy development. However, the majority of workplaces identify supportive environments and policy development as a medium or high priority for them to achieve workplace wellness. Responses also showed that most workplaces are starting to develop or have developed wellness policies or supportive environment supports. Most respondents indicated that Project Health was a useful resource to assist them in developing supportive environments (86%) and wellness policies (79%).
What your survey results meant for Project Health:
These results support Project Health’s efforts in creating supportive environments and policy development in workplaces in Waterloo Region. Project Health will continue to support workplace intermediaries in their wellness planning efforts with the goal of shifting more workplaces towards these key workplace health promotion strategies. Respondents identified that additional supports that could be developed by Project Health to further assist workplaces in these efforts are policy examples, topic-specific toolkits and evaluation tools. The results of the survey demonstrate that Project Health is currently offering many services workplaces find useful, but also identify opportunities to provide new and expanded services to further support workplace wellness in workplaces in Waterloo Region.
