Project Health Update

Congratulations to Jessica from Heffner Lexus Toyota and Mary Beth from the Region of Waterloo on being the successful applicants for T4H’s 2007 Individual Workplace Consultation Project. We have hired the consultants for this project and they will be meeting with Jessica and Mary Beth in the very near future. This is an exciting project that will provide expertise and support to workplaces to create and sustain their own wellness initiatives. If our evaluation demonstrates that this consultation process is successful we hope to be offering it to other workplaces next year.

Mark your calendars! You are invited to Region of Waterloo Public Health’s Workplace Launch event on Thursday April 12, 2007 from 12 – 2 pm. Public Health will unveil its “Project Health – Supporting Healthy Workplaces” initiative and participants will be given a free copy of “The Handbook to Healthy Workplaces in Waterloo Region”, hear a presentation of the services being offered, have an opportunity to browse numerous displays and pick up information at our Resource Marketplace.

To register or for more information please call the Project Health phone line at 519-883-2287 or email sgretch@region.waterloo.on.ca.

Register early as attendance is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis.

Quick Fact

Making Wise Choices When Eating Out

Eating out continues to grow in popularity. The percentage of food eaten at restaurants or purchased for take-out by Canadians rose from 53% in 1994 to 61% in 2004. On average Canadians spent approximately 30 cents of their total food dollar on these convenient options in 2001. Research also shows that healthier food choices are becoming more common but the most popular food and beverage items at Canadian restaurants are still french-fries and coffee.
